Registration for the Swedish SummeRun and Walk for Ovarian Cancer is now open!
The SummeRun & Walk for Ovarian Cancer was founded in 1994 by renowned Swedish Cancer Institute medical oncologist Saul E. Rivkin, MD, in partnership with Swedish Medical Center. Dr. Rivkin and his five daughters were mourning the loss of Dr. Rivkin’s late wife, and the girls’ mother, Marsha Rivkin, who had recently lost her life to ovarian cancer. Determined to turn their grief into something positive, they decided to step out and show the world they could help fight this disease. They had no idea their efforts would start an event and ultimately an organization that would become one of the largest private funders of ovarian cancer research in the country.
That first SummeRun was a huge success. The Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer was founded in 1996 to extend survival and reduce suffering for women living with or at risk of developing this disease. Today, the Rivkin Center is the SummeRun’s only beneficiary. The organization has funded more than $10 million in grants to ovarian cancer researchers throughout the world, thanks to the hard work of SummeRun team captains and participants, and many other generous donors.
