Meet a Survivor: Nancy Sivitilli

The Rivkin Center aims to foster an ever-growing community of survivors, patients, researchers, clinicians, advocates, and supporters — all working together in the fight against ovarian and breast cancer.

The Rivkin Center’s education program provides free health education workshops across the west coast. Survivors share their cancer journey with Rivkin EDU party attendees and help educate individuals on ovarian and breast health.

Meet Nancy, a breast cancer survivor and Rivkin EDU Survivor.

About Nancy

Where are you from?

Born in Brussels, Belgium. Lived in Renton/Kent most of my life from 6 years of age.

Tell us a little about yourself (What should people know about you?)

I am passionate, ambitious, and grow and learn every day. My family and home are my priority. I definitely have a humorous side and love to have a meaningful conversation over wine. I still have dreams and goals — I hope to inspire others! I see my life as a gift and even through tough times, I always find something to be grateful for. I don’t do fake; I do real.

What do you do for fun?

Hike, dance, dinners, games, hanging with family and friends — or finding and trying new adventures or activities.

What advice would you give your younger self?

That would take many talks! Definitely practice self-love and find an inspiring mentor. Travel and take more adventures now!

What are you most proud of?

My sons and who they are becoming. They’ve taught me so much and continue to give me inspiration — and now as young adults, they are still my world. And also my stepdaughters who continue to grow into young women.

Where is your favorite place to travel?

I can’t pick just one place — treasures all over the world exist. I love anywhere with beautiful scenery, where I can relax, find peaceful moments and also explore, or somewhere with history — if it’s all combined — amazing! Definitely Europe!

Where do you go to find inspiration?

Faith and God. He’s always there to listen and scriptures are great reminders. It’s also everywhere from poems to amazing people and nature all around.

How can people support someone going through cancer treatment?

Just be there… to listen, encourage, cry, and give support. Most importantly, help them feel normal and laugh.

How Nancy got involved

How long have you been involved with the Rivkin Center?

12 years! If we count the parties that I started back with the original CYB (Check Your Boobies).

What inspired you to get involved?

As a breast cancer survivor, I really felt I needed to give back, and helping educate was a natural fit. I’ve met great people.

What is the most important thing you want attendees to learn at a Rivkin EDU party?

You are not alone!!!
