Free event to foster collaboration between scientists
SEATTLE – Dec 1, 2017 – The Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer is proud to present the 1st
biennial Northwest Gynecological Cancer Symposium (NGCS) to be held on Monday, December
4th, 2017 from 8am – 7pm at Pelton Auditorium at Fred Hutch in Seattle. NGCS is designed to
facilitate communication and foster collaboration between scientists in the Pacific Northwest
working on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gynecological cancers. PNW experts
will present new gynecological cancer-related research including work on animal models, cancer
stem cells, cancer mechanisms, chemoresistance, clinical research, DNA Repair and Response,
etiology, pathophysiology, genetics, genomics, epigenetics, immunology, novel therapies,
proteomics, metabolomics, tumor microenvironment and more. Panel discussions following each
session will allow a deeper insight into new research and discussion of how learnings from
different gynecological cancers can be applied to the study of others in the hopes of better
treatment and survival.
NGCS brings together about 100 of the who’s who in the gynecological cancer research world in
Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. Planning committee members include Nora Disis, MD
(University of Washington, Fred Hutch), Charles Drescher, MD (Swedish Cancer Institute, Fred
Hutch), Brad Nelson, PhD (British Columbia Cancer Agency), Rosana Risques, PhD (University of
Washington) Elizabeth Swisher, MD (University of Washington, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance) and
Kiran Dhillon, PhD (Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer). Invited speakers include Garnet Anderson,

Institute), and Brad Nelson PhD (BC Cancer Agency). The symposium is open to all. The free
registration is required to partake in catered lunch and reception. The full program for the 1-day
symposium can be found at www.rivkin.org/ngcs. Please email Kiran.Dhillon@swedish.org if you
would like to attend and have any additional questions. The Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer
aims to work towards envisioning a day when women no longer die of ovarian cancer. The three
pillars of the organization guide our mission: 1. Research – a global funder of research efforts
aimed at finding solutions to ovarian cancer, 2. Early detection – support local prevention and early
detection screening programs, 3. Education – free educational workshops in the community to
empower women to be proactive about their health by giving them tools for early detection,
prevention, and self-advocacy.
