At mom’s gravesite memorial, the pastor asked to say 1-word answers that describe who Rosemarie Westrick was. With no hesitation, I said “Selfless” because mom epitomized the meaning … concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own. I remember my daughter Whitney and I being the last ones standing over mom’s casket and Whitney not wanting to leave, still in disbelief that our “chemo buddy” (which mom called us) was gone. Mom owned Sunflower Preschool in Longview, WA for 20 years and I’m proud to say Whitney will be following in her grandmother’s footsteps as a teacher herself. Mom was small in stature but the toughest lady I knew, battling ovarian cancer at stage 4 for 2-1/2 years! She passed in 2012 and Whitney and I have made it our mission to fight for anyone battling ovarian cancer. We proudly support the Rivkin Center!
